AhlulBayt News Agency: Renowned Iranian scholar of Quran and Hadith, Hojat-ol-Islam Dr. Seyyed Mohammad Baqer Hojjati, widely known as the “Father of Quranic Sciences in Iran,” has passed away at the age of 92, on Thursday.

Hojjati, a distinguished Islamic scholar, author, and veteran professor of the University of Tehran, was recognized for his extensive contributions to Quranic research, manuscript studies, and Islamic education.

Born on February 14, 1933, in Babol, northern Iran, he was the first professor to formally teach Quran and Hadith studies at the university level in Iran, effectively laying the foundation for the academic discipline.

In a statement, the Supreme Council of the Quran expressed its condolences to the academic and Quranic communities and to his many students, acknowledging his lifelong service to the development of Quranic knowledge.

Hojjati, who earned top honors in the field of philosophy, worked alongside leading scholars including the late Ayatollah Morteza Motahhari at the Faculty of Theology in Tehran. Among his peers and classmates were Grand Ayatollahs Abdollah Javadi-Amoli and the late Hassan Hassanzadeh Amoli.

Over a career spanning more than five decades, Hojjati authored numerous books and mentored generations of students who themselves went on to become leading figures in religious and academic circles. His humility, dedication to teaching in various settings, and close rapport with his students were frequently cited as hallmarks of his legacy.

In 2016, the International Quran News Agency (IQNA) organized a tribute, honoring his life and work in the presence of his former students, many of whom had become professors themselves.
